About the Author
Erik Baard has been leading kayak tours of New York City for nearly a quarter century and has founded several paddling organizations. He's a native New Yorker from a lineage of working mariners. He was honored by the state as "The Greenest New Yorker" for his environmental education projects, won the Best Reporting "Deadline Club" prize from the New York chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in two categories. He's written about kayaking and harbor life for the Hudson River Watertrail Guide, The The New Yorker, The Village Voice, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time Out New York, and other media.
